Priorities
What does TIA Yukon do for you? Learn more about our initiatives to keep our industry vibrant and united.
At May 4, 2007, the newly elected/appointed Board of Directors are just beginning to plan their year, priorities and association development priorities. As you may know, the association has just evolved from a stand alone tourism industry association to an umbrella organization, incorporated and endorsed by Yukon tourism associations, to be the voice of the tourism industry on Yukon-wide issues and opportunities.
In addition to the work of the new Board in orienting itself and defining priorities, the association will carry forward an initiative from January 2007 in leading the Yukon Tourism Industry Analysis and Business Planning exercise. This plan, to be completed in two phases, will be complete before the end of this calendar year and will provide the most relevant, research-based, industry-led tourism development visioning the Yukon has ever seen. Please stay tuned and be sure to add you two cents. Past Strategic Priorities of TIA Yukon
1. Tourism Awareness – engaging in a 3-year, tourism awareness campaign beginning with research about current awareness levels, a plan and implementation schedule and evaluation. The launch of the campaign and tactics were introduced at TIA Yukon's Annual General Meeting October 28 and 29, 2005.
2. Standards in Industry – TIA Yukon has recently adopted a code of ethics for membership to begin the process of ‘raising the bar’ in standards with awareness and stewardship. This will be followed by a strategy to address standards of product and service by sector – Accommodation, Food & Beverage, Transportation, etc. The first piece of this plan deals with Accommodation and looking into a Yukon franchise of Canada Select.
3. Data Collection – creating a voluntary, occupancy data collection portal for Yukon accommodations sector collecting total rooms rented, total rooms available and average room rates during specific time periods. This data will contribute to a better understanding of the tourism industry, trends information for the industry and government, and most importantly, confidentiality and independence from government of figures and revenues on an individual basis.
