Yukon Tourism: Larger Than Life in Dawson City
May 1, 2006
Over
120 tourism delegates participated in the Yukon Tourism Industry Conference
in Dawson City from April 27 to 29. Highlights of the annual conference,
entitled “Networking Tourism in The Yukon: Linking Trends, People,
and Gold Standards” included utilizing the internet for tourism,
creative marketing, industry best practices, and building awareness
of the Yukon in conjunction with the new Yukon Brand.
TIA
Yukon President Rod Taylor remarked “This years Yukon Industry
Conference was critically important to our industry as it gave us all
an opportunity to review the research behind the new Yukon brand. By
the end of the conference I believe the overwhelming feeling among delegates
was that the brand absolutely reflects the findings of this research.
The key now is to execute the brand in a significant and consistent
manner.”
In
addition to networking and training, TIA Yukon presented several awards
to industry leaders. Each year the Tourism Industry is given the opportunity
to nominate the best in the Yukon, and this year, there were several
nominations in 6 categories.
The six individuals and groups that received awards at the Gala dinner
are:
- Yukon Sourdough Award (recognizing an individual or group for high
achievement in the development or management of an event, facility,
etc.) - Hotsprings
Valley Retreat
- Sustainable Tourism Award (Presented to a business that recognizes
the management of resources focused on maintaining the Yukon's cultural
integrity, essential ecological processes, biological diversity and
life support systems that meet the needs of present visitors and host
