September 2012, Golden Host Winners
Twenty-six nominations were received for the September 2012 Golden Host Awards; which recognize front-line tourism workers for extraordinary service given to our visitors in the Yukon. The Yukon Tourism Education Council, along with partners the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon, are pleased to announce the winners of the Golden Host Award program for September 2012.
The September 2012 Golden Host Winners:
Chris Beel, Tana Automotive Repairs, Watson Lake, YT
Jim Jenkins from Florida has nominated Chris Beel for a September Golden Host Award.
“I was in your city in June and had a problem with my travel trailer. I attempted to stay at Watson Lake Campground, however, the road was so bad that I broke a spring on the trailer. Unfortunately, I was given disheartened news at a couple of repair shops. It would be very expensive and they couldn’t get parts for two weeks, etc. Fortunately, I was put in touch with Mr. Chris Beel. He was very honest and helpful. He repaired it on a Sunday for me and the price was very reasonable and fair. I was so impressed that on the way back home to Florida, I drove back to Watson Lake and had him replace two more springs that were questionable. You are very fortunate to have such an honest man in your community. I have recommended him and Watson Lake to a good number of people I’ve met while traveling the past five months. It was very refreshing to know that there are people like him and the ladies in your visitor centre to assist us as we travel.
Yteke Visser, Joyce Van Bibber and Julie Saunders, Whitehorse Visitor Information Centre, Whitehorse, YT
Michael Moore from Redding, California nominated the girls from the Whitehorse Visitor information Centre for a September 2012 Golden Host Award.
“I Love Yteke and Joyce! They are absolutely amazing! When I was hungry, they fed me cucumbers. Then I told them I was stranded and they went into motherly overdrive to see this stranger was taken care of. Their love for their job and love for others is evident through their unprecedented service and hospitality. I got a plane ticket from Whitehorse to Vancouver for Two Hundred dollars because of their knowledge and wisdom in traveling through the area. I was probably saved from being worse off or stranded in Fairbanks. I am Thankful that Yteke and Joyce were such a help. They are a wonderful blessing and by far the best host I’ve encountered on my 2 month journey through America.” Yteke also took Michael Home for a shower and a place to sleep and Julie drove him to the airport.
The Golden Host Program presents a business that has been nominated numerous times in a Season with a Special Recognition Award and we have chosen Farshid and Del Amirtabar, from the Midnight Sun Bed & Breakfast, Whitehorse, YT to receive this award for being nominated a total of 69 times. Congratulations!
